I had heard sub domains do not drive traffic. So by choosing best domain names, such as those domain names in the first page of Google, yahoo etc, is it possible to drive traffic to a sub domain ?Can any body answer it?

According to me choosing a domain name means choosing a keyword for a search engine.A website may have hundreds of key words and out of those set if a particular key word is bad or good has got very little affect on over all performance.
